Dirigo Resident Dies At Community Hospital

Mrs. Nellie Gaston [sic; should be Gaskin(s)] Royse, a resident of Dirigo, died at the Community Hospital, Glasgow, at 8 p.m. Friday night [May 24th] after having been in declining health for some time.

Mrs. Royse was born in Russell County, being a daughter of the late James R. and Ellen Hill Gaston. The family moved to Adair County when she was a child and settled in the Sparksville community. She married James C. Royce in 1901 and they had three children all of whom survive. Mr. Royse was killed in 1929 when struck by lightning. The children are Glyde Royse, of Ashland, Ky., Samuel Royse and Mrs. Cledus Royse, both of Dirigo.

She also leaves one brother, H.F. Gaston, of Columbia, four sisters, Mrs. Zonia Tillman, of Duke, Okla., Mrs. Rhodia England, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mrs. Stella Page and Mrs. R.E. Strange, of Sparksville, and five grandchildren, Emogene, Marjorie, Reva Mae, and Grace Royse, of Ashland, and Norma Morgan, of Dirigo.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Harrodsfork Baptist Church, where Mrs. Royse had been a member for many years. Rev. Joe Stotts conducted the service and interment was in the Gatson [sic. Gaskin] family graveyard.

The pallbearers were: Messrs. Harmon Page, Clifton Page, Harold Page, E.D. Roberts, Walon Strange and Felton Fudge.
