Mrs. Huckaby dies Sunday. Illness of Six Years is Fatal to Local Woman - Rites
Tuesday.
Mrs. Edna A. Huckaby, died Sunday night at the county hospital. She was 54 years old.
She had been ill for six years and was taken to the hospital Sunday morning. She died at 11:55 o'clock Sunday night.
Funeral services for Mrs. Huckaby will be at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Barkes and Inlow funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
The casket will be open at the funeral home after 6 o'clock tonight.
Mrs. Huckaby was a member of the Baptist Mission church. She had lived in Columbus for six years having moved here from Adair County, Kentucky.
She was born Feb. 28, 1899, the daughter of Alfred H. and Lucy Campbell Allen.

LOUIS ALLEN DIES TODAY AT HOSPITAL
Louis P. Allen, 40, former operator of Louis' Restaurant in Edinburg, died today at the Bartholomew county hospital following a 6 month
illness.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm. Monday at the Barkes and Inlow funeral
home. Burial will be at Garland Brook cemetery. Persons may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm Sunday and until the time of services Monday at the funeral home.
Born in Kentucky April 1, 1926, he was the son of the late Elie C. and Rebecca Huckaby Allen.
Mr. Allen had been in restaurant work for 15 years, operating the restaurant in Edinburg for 10 months prior to his retirement five months ago due to ill health. He had lived in Columbus 20 years and was a member of Love Chapel mission.

Funeral service for Noah A. Allen, 65, of Union Street, will be conducted

Death Claims William Allen
Native of Kentucky Dies after 6 Week Illness Funeral Wednesday
William Welcome Allen, 47, an employee of the V.E. Sprouse company here, died at 12:40 o'clock this morning at the county hospital following a 6 week long illness. He resided
in East Columbus, moving here four years ago.
He was admitted to the hospital Friday Evening.
Funeral services will be held at 2'o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Bear Wallow Church at Columbia, Kentucky, his former home , and burial will take place at the church cemetery.
The casket will be open after 7 o'clock tonight at the Barkes and Albright funeral
home. Early Wednesday it will be moved to the Grissom funeral home at Columbia.

Verda M. Martin, 68, died at 11:26 pm Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998 at Community Care Center.
She was a retired nurse's aid at Columbus Regional Hospital and was a member of the Baptist Church.

ERNEST W. HUCKABY
Ernest W. Huckaby, 79, of East Indiana 46 died at 12:45 am, Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Mr. Huckaby retired from Cosco, was of the Baptist faith and was an avid woodworker, fisherman and gardener.
The funeral will be at 10am Saturday at Barkes, inlow, and Weaver Funeral Home on Washington Street. Calling will be from 4 to 7 pm Friday and from 9 am until service time Saturday, Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Mr. Huckaby was born in Columbia, KY., May 17, 1923, the son of Lewis and Edna M. Allen

Native of Kentucky Dies at Home of Daughter here - Funeral Friday
Mrs. Matilda Evelyn Huckaby, 81, widow of the late Michael Huckaby, died suddenly at 3:45 o'clock this morning at the home of a
daughter, where she had been residing for the past five years.
Funeral services have been set for 10:30 o'clock Friday morning at the Barkes and Fox funeral home on North Washington Street. Burial will be made at Garland Brook Cemetery.
The casket will be open at the funeral home after noon Thursday until time of the services Friday.
Mrs. Huckaby was born and had lived most of her life in Kentucky before coming here to make her home with the daughter. Her husband died in 1928.
She was a member of the United Baptist church at Big Springs, KY.

Former Citizen Dies
George L. Hadley, son of Melvin Hadley, who formerly lived at Humble
[Russell County] and who has been a resident of Columbia for some time,
passed on Saturday evening about 5:00 P.M. at Nichols General Hospital
in Louisville.
He served in the U.S. army for several months and during that time
married Miss Ernestine Moss of Columbia. Soon after his marriage, poor
health took toll of his body, making him an invalid for the past four or
five years. He was treated at the Veterans Hospital at Outwood and later
at St. Joseph's hospital in Louisville, and the last three weeks was at
Nichols General Hospital for special treatment.
He is survived by his wife and little son, Danny, of Columbia, his
father and four brothers, Oscar, Maurice, Richard, and Gus, and by a
sister, Mrs. Earl Miller, all of Indiana, and a brother, Arthur, who is
still serving in the U.S. army and stationed in Texas.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Columbia. with
interment in the city cemetery Tuesday afternoon.

Old Colored Woman Buried Saturday
Aunt Gusta Staton, as she was familiarly known, was buried Saturday at
her old home near Crocus. She was extremely aged, it being reported that
she was in her nineties. She was well-known among the white as well as
colored people, and was honored and respected by all.
Transcriber's note: the KY death record abstracts give her age as 93;
the death date as April 4, 1946, and her place of residence & the place
of death as Adair County.

Rev. T.A. Streevals, one of Adair county's leading citizens, is in
serious condition at the Community hospital, Glasgow, Ky. As far as we
know at this writing he is no better. No chance for his recovery.

TITUS PRICE RITES HELD SUNDAY AT COLUMBIA
Titus Price, 75, died here [Jamestown] Saturday morning at 2:00 A.M.,
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Bertram. He had been in
declining health for several months, and while his death was not
unexpected, it was a great shock to the family.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 P.M. at the
Grissom funeral home in Columbia, with interment following in the city
cemetery there.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. Pendleton Scruggs.
Pallbearers were Thomas Brown, Shreve Davis, Hugh Thomas, Winfield
Leach, John Ingram, and Fred Davis. Honorary pallbearers were T.E.
Jeffries, Ores Barger, and C.R. Barger.
Surviving are the wife, and four children, Mrs. Sarah Ann Bertram of
Jamestown, and Lyne, Robert and Bo Price, of Adair county. Also
surviving are a brother, Rufus Price, and sister, Mrs. A.W. Paxton, both
of Columbia. They have the sympathy of all in their great loss.
Mr. Price lived a long, useful life and had won and held the esteem
and respect of all who knew him. He was elected circuit court clerk in
Adair county in 1910 and served two terms. By profession, he was a
barber, and spent 45 years at this trade in Columbia. He was born in
Adair County and spent most of his life there.
He was a lover of sports and served as official scorer for Columbia in
the Southern Bluegrass baseball league for several years. He also served
as Columbia's official basketball scorer for several years, and has been
mentioned in Earl Ruby's column in the Courier-Journal.

William T. Price and the death date as August 17, 1946. Birth and
cemetery records indicate Mr. Price's wife was the former Miss
Anna/Annie Eubanks. (For those folks who aren't quite as chronologically
enhanced as the transcriber, Earl Ruby served as the Louisville, Ky.,
'Courier-Journal' sports editor from the late 1930s through the late
1960s, and then as the outdoor editor until the mid-1980s.)

Mrs. Wheat Dies Near Montpelier
Mrs. Tiny Ellen Wheat, 57, wife of L.O. Wheat, died at her home near
Montpelier, Saturday morning, December 11. Surviving are Mrs. Wheat's
husband, three sons, Ray, Avery, and Arvel Wheat, and one daughter, Mrs.
Ella Helm, and a number of near relatives and friends.
Funeral rites were led by Rev. S.B. Rowe at the Providence Baptist
church, where Mrs. Wheat was a member, Sunday afternoon at 2:00 with
Stotts and Cheatham, funeral directors, attending.
