Local Banker's Clothes Stolen
James Shepherd, 24, and Gene Conover, 25, both of Indianapolis, Ind.,
formerly of this county, were arrested here Saturday afternoon by Chief
of Police Bert Harper, charged with drunk and disorderly conduct. Both
were registered at the Miller Hotel.
Shepherd, who was arrested after he was seen leaving the side entrance
of the building, had in his possession a new suit of clothes, overcoat,
clock and flashlight which belonged to Bruce Montgomery, local banker,
who lives at the hotel. Conover was taken into custody shortly
thereafter when he became so disorderly that the hotel management called
Chief Harper.
The two were lodges in jail until Monday morning when they were taken
before Police Judge C.G. Jeffries.
Shepherd was fined $19.50 and Conover $24.40 for drunkeness. Shepherd
was then taken before County Judge E.G. Hardwick, who ordered him held
to the grand jury on a petty larceny charge under $800 bond.
