The family of Daniel and Nancy Spears Steele came from Washington County, Virginia to Carter and Boyd counties in the early 1850's.
Their son Dr. John H. Steele settled in Olive Hill and became the first doctor in Carter County.
He married Sarah F. McFerrin from Greenbrier County, VA (WVA) and they raised their family in Olive Hill.
The family Bible, c 1842, is in hands of Mary Louise Steele Hollowell of Albany, GA
