Ezekiel settled in Greenup Co.,Ky. around 1820 and whose descendants lived mostly in eastern Ky..In "The Big Sandy Valley" by William Ely (1887) itsays " James M. Rices grandfather came to America before the great Revolution. He took sides with the Colonies and fought for freedom. His son (Ezekiel), the father of James M.Rice, came from his Virgina home, east of the Blue Ridge,in 1799 and settled nea Guyandotte,Va. (now West Virgina). The next year he married Elizabeth Miller b.3 Oct 1782 d.28 Mar 1836."
Note:Theres one date that has to be wrong.In red below.That would have made him a lawyer under 12 years old. :Ezekiel Rice.....In the 1780s he came to Catlettsburg,Ky. and being a lawyer had somewhat to do with the buildng up and progress of Calettsburg toward a thriving town in those days. It is believed he migrated West--as they called it then--from Virgina or West Virgina over the Blue Ridge Mountains to Ky..He married a Miss Miller from Philadelphia,Pa. and they had several children.One being William F.Rice,born 1824 in Catlettsburg and later moved to Aden,Ky.,where he married Nancy Rodgers.There were 10 children from this marriage, including John Wesley Rice,born July 18,1871. He was the ninth child of the family.First one was Mary, born Dec.29,1852.Third one named Jack was born in 1858 and passed away in April of 1956 at age 98.It seems to be vaguely understood in te family that this Rice branch was of the Celtic people who long ago inhabited the county of Wales, with somehow some French, German and Scotch thrown in along the line.
Will of Ezekiel Rice - Carter County Ky. Will Index I, Ezekiel Rice, of the County of Carter and State of Ky., knowing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, do make, this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and annulling all former wills. I will and bequeath to my Son, William M. Rice, all my real estate situate lying and being in the County of Carter and State of Ky., on the Little fork with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging, and I will that after the payment of my just debts and funeral expenses, my personal property shall be equally divided between my eleven children to wit: James M. Rice, Jacob Rice, Jeremiah Rice, Cindarilla Rice, Ruth Carter, Sarah Rice, Ezekiel Rice, William M. Rice. Eleanor Mullins,
