"I'm not sure how many people are aware that the mother of Roy Rogers was born in Pactolus, just outside of Grayson. She was a Womack, one of the old and prominent families of Carter County. Some years ago, before she passed away, I corresponded with the sister of Roy Rogers, who was still living in Portsmouth at the time. She told me that in the early 1940's, when Roy was at the height of his popularity, he attended a Womack family renunion in Carter County."
