January Term 1865

 

Carter County Court January term 1865 at a County Court commenced held at the court house in Grayson this 9th day of January 1865 presant Philip B. Hord, Justice of the Peace.

 

B. F. Shepherd sheriff of Carter County Having attend the circuit ____ and County ____ and court of claim and kept good order in the year 1864. It is therefore ordered that B. F. Shepherd sheriff of Carter County be allowed forty dollars for his services in the year of 1864 for atttending the courts in the that year of which is ordered to be certified to the adition for payment.

 

This day John Roadcup appeared and on his motion and proof being made it is orered that John Roadcup be permitted to keep a tavern at his house at Boon Furance and together with John Eifort his ____entered into and acknowledge bond which bond is approved by the court and he took the oath required by law.

 

On this motion of Sherod Rice it is ordered that a summons issue against Emily Rice, returnable to the next term to show cause if any why Washington Rice and William L. Rice infant heirs of Henry Rice deceased shall not be bound out.

 

On this motion of Joseph Bean it is ordered by the court that Joseph Bean be released from paying Malitia Tax for the year 1862 for the year 1863 and that the sheriff shall have credit for the same.

 

On the motion of the attorney for the county court and appearing to the

satisfaction of the court that John Easterling jailor of Carter County does not reside within the limits of the town of Grayson according to an act of assembly made out provided that Jailors should reside with in the town limits in the where at the County seats of the County.
