CHILDREN OF OWEN McGLONE

SQUIRE McGLONE

born: June 10, 1811
died: June 25, 1880
married: Mary Ann Osborne on January 15, 1834

Squire was born in Greenup County, Kentucky, and died at McGlone Creek and is buried there. Mary Ann was born on October 31, 1817, and died on July 4, 1871, according to her tombstone, but some records show her birthdate as October 30, 1812. She is also buried at McGlone Creek. Squire married Amanda Jane Friley after Mary died. He had 8 children:

  1. James S. will be discussed in Section I.
  2. Cordelia was born in 1835 in Kentucky and married Joseph Jordan, known as "Funny Joe". They were married on February 11, 1854.
  3. William Cann will be discussed in Section II.
  4. Mary Evaline "Bird" was born on March 29, 1843, in Kentucky and died on September 25, 1918 (9). She married Charles Nicholas Davis.
  5. Patrick Henry will be discussed in Section III.
  6. Malinda was born on June 20, 1853, in Kentucky and married Frank Dameron. They had one daughter, Georgia.
  7. Eliza was born in 1854 in Kentucky and died before 1860.
  8. Angeline "Sarah" married Larkin Nelson and they had 5 children.

Section I

James Squire was known as "Flatwoods Jim" and "Wood Choppin" Jim and was born in 1834 in Kentucky. He married Mary Jane Burton on February 28, 1860, Mary was born in 1834 in Virginia. They had 10 children:

  1. Isaac H. will be discussed in Section IV.
  2. Louise A. (Lou) was born in Kentucky in 1863 and married William Burchett.
  3. Hulda J. was born in Kentucky in 1864 and married Leslie Yates on October 24, 1905.
  4. Samuel S. will be discussed in Section V.
  5. Helen M. was born in 1868 in Kentucky.
  6. James Squire was born in 1871 in Kentucky. Some question exists whether James Squire is one name or maybe James and Squire are two different people.
  7. Lily Fair was born in 173.
  8. Ida M. was born in 1875 and married twice, first to a Loper and then to Alfred Haar. She had 6 children.
  9. John Wesley will be discussed in Section VI.
  10. George died early.

Section II

William Cann was a son of Squire and was born in 1838. He married Susan O. Davis on October 13, 1861. They had 4 children or 6 children:

  1. George was born in 1864 and married a Lewis.
  2. Mary E. was born in 1865 in Kentucky. She married George Tinder and later Richard Mullins. Mary and George had a son, Robert, who took the name Mullins. Robert married Hattie McGlone, who was the daughter of James M. and Mary.
  3. Amster B. will be discussed in Section VII.
  4. Nancy Ann was born in 1871. She married Jerimiah Emmanuel Rhoden (Jerry).

Section III

Patrick Henry was born in 1850 and died in November 1919. He is buried at Ead McGlone’s on McGlone Creek. He married Mary Damron on December 12, 1872. Mary was born on November 20, 1853, and died in 1917. He then married Rosa Conn on September 11, 1919. He had 7 children:

  1. John will be discussed in Section VIII.
  2. James will be discussed in Section IX.
  3. William will be discussed in Section X.
  4. Frank will be discussed in Section XI.
  5. Della married Ed. Burton on July 13, 1917.
  6. Judy (Sis) was born on October 15, 1876, and died on May 3, 1961. She married a Lewis and later Simon Burton.
  7. Squire will be discussed in Section XII.

Section IV

Isaac Harrison was a grandson of Squire. He was born on April 28, 1855, in either Carter or Greenup County, Kentucky, and died on April 3, 1971. He is buried at St. Paul, Kentucky. He married Belle Ferguson and later Jane England. Belle is buried at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Jane is buried at St. Paul. Isaac left Kentucky at age 16 and went to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to work in the timber industry. He had six children, two by Belle and four by Jane.

  4. Alva.
  5. Ella.
  6. Rebecca married a Hall and lived in Lincoln Park, Michigan, in 1978.
  7. James A. was born October 11, 1893, and married Ruth Williams.

Section V

Samuel S. was a grandson of Squire. He was born in 1867 in Carter County, Kentucky, and married Josephine Horner. Samuel moved to Greenup County, Kentucky, when he was a young boy. He and Josephine had four children:

  1. Helen married a Parr and was the youngest child.
  2. Samuel J. lives in Chicago.
  3. Lydia.
  4. Myrtle.

Section VI

John Wesley was born o February 5, 1878, in St. Paul, Kentucky, and died in September 1951 in Bicknell, Indiana. He married Lucinda K. More "Cindy Moon" on January 19, 1900, in St. Paul. Cindy was born on November 22, 1882, in Indiana. He was a coal miner. They had 10 children:

  1. Lula was born on September 25, 1912, and married a Baker. She lives in Bloomington, Indiana.
  2. Willard James was born on September 25, 1913, in Kentucky and died in September 1966 in Evansville, Indiana. He had 3 children. Ronald Lee of Tulsa, Oklahoma; John Wesley; Caroline Sue.
  3. Garnet lives in Chicago.
  4. Bertha.
  5. Ruby lives in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
  6. Walter lives in Bicknell, Indiana.
  7. Ernie was the youngest and is now deceased.
  8. Fred is now deceased.
  9. Ralph lives in Bicknell, Indiana.
  10. Ethel.

Section VII

Amster B. (Bee) was born on August 4, 1867, and died on November 13, 1940, in Greenup County, Kentucky. He married Susan Jane Sutherland on July 2, 1887, in Carter County and later he married Mary A. Vanderpool. Susan was born on September 8, 1867, and the date of her death is uncertain. He married Mary on September 12, 1931. He had 13 children:


  1. Sarah S. was born on May 24, 1888, and married a Bill Watson and later Augustus Wilburn.
  2. Ora A. will be discussed in Section XV.
  3. James William will be discussed in Section XIV.
  4. Rosa L. was born on December 31, 1894, and married a Galleher.
  5. Letitia (Tishie) was born on August 2, 1896, and died on April 24, 1927. She married Charles Stamper.
  6. Roman (Rowan) will be discussed in Section XVI.
  7. Alifare was born on January 15, 1900, and died February 26, 1900.
  8. Chetty was born on May 29, 1901, and died September 7, 1906.
  9. Birchie was a twin of Chetty.
  10. Leathie was born November 19, 1905, and married a Cooper.
  11. Ollie will be discussed in Section XVII.
  12. Mollie was born June 2, 1909, and never married.
  13. Bertha was born May 29, 1902.

Section VIII

John was born on September 19. 1875, and died October 31, 1962. He married Elizabeth (Lizzie) McGlone December 14, 1901. Lizzie was born on July 7, 1876, and died on March 7, 1964, in Lewis County, Kentucky. They both are buried at Oakland Cemetery in Carter County. Lizzie was the daughter of James Marion. They had 6 children:

  1. Juda (Judy) -- See Chapter IV, Section XVIII.
  2. Roy was born February 4, 1904, in Olive Hill, Kentucky. He married Pearl Fannin February 20, 1930. They had three children.
  3. Thomas was born March 6, 1906, in Lucasville, Ohio, according to some records; others show him born in 1908 in Carter County. He married Rachel Eulett in 1933 and they had five children.
  4. Mae was born March 3, 1908, at Camp Dix, Kentucky. She married Chestly Eulett January 15, 1940.
  5. Goldie was born February 14, 1911, and married Harold May October 19, 1931.
  6. Clyde is buried at the McGlone Creek Cemetery in an unmarked grave.

Section IX

James "Limpy Jim" was born on February 28, 1881, and died on May 9, 1943. He married Ida Litteral on October 6, 1911. They had 7 children:

  1. Mary Berrey was born on August 4, 1912 in Carter County.
  2. Iva was born on August 18, 1914, in Carter County. She married Oscar Cooper on August 30, 1932, in Muncie, Indiana.
  3. Otis.
  4. Beulah married a Hood in Carter County, Kentucky.
  5. Blanche was married to a Holbrook at Sylvester, Ohio.
  6. Viola.
  7. Walter Swirl "Tommy" was born on September 1, 1927, in Carter County and died on February 11, 1962.

Section X

William Cann "Coon" was born on April 13, 1880, and died on February 19, 1968. He is buried at McGlone Creek. On August 1, 1902, he married Maggie Belle McGlone, James’ daughter. She died in 1918 and on April 25, 1921, he married Effie Blanche Kembler. She was born on March 11, 1900, and died on March 26, 1956. He had 5 children, all by Maggie:

  1. Marie was born on April 24, 1904.
  2. Irene was born on October 1, 1905, and married Roy Brenner on September 17, 1928.
  3. Reeder was born on July 19, 1907, and died in 1976 in Morehead, Kentucky.
  4. William L. "Widge" was born on March 10, 1913, and married Sibyl Ethel Spencer on May 12, 1934.
  5. Betty Lou was a foster daughter.

Section XI

Frank was born on September 9, 1888, and died on July 13, 1967. He married Tessie Leora McGlone on March 23, 1912. Tessie was the daughter of James Marion McGlone. She was born on September 15, 1890, and died on December 25, 1932. Frank then married Grace Davis on December 23, 1933. Frank and Tessie had 5 children:

  1. Mary was born on November 21, 1914, and died at birth. She is buried at McGlone Creek.
  2. Opel was born on September 5, 1915, and married Roy Buckner in 1970.
  3. Anna May was born on March 1, 1924, and married Earn Davis.
  4. Avonell was born on March 14, 1927, and married Walt Justice.
  5. Edith married Okera Fultz.
  6. Tennessee.
  7. Clinton.
  8. Clevie "Clovie" married Clyde Jordan.
  9. Carlos.
  10. Arthur Ray.
  11. James Patrick.

We also understand Frank had a son, Carsol, who married Geneva Fannin.

Section XII

Squire was the son of Patrick Henry and was born on May 3, 1874, and died on April 14, 1942. He married Dora Staggs on May 21, 1896. Dora was born on October 17, 1876, and died on July 7, 1961. She is buried at the Amey Cemetery in Carter County. He and Dora had several children. Dora was the daughter of Nancy Staggs, wife of James Wayman.

  1. Carrie McKinney.
  2. Gladys.
  3. Marina.

Section XIII

Harry was the g.g.s. of Squire and the son of Isaac Harrison. At the present time, we are unsure of his birth or death dates. He married Bertha Wilkes and they had two children, Anna and Dorothy. On November 1 1917, he married Cora Bocook. Cora was born in 1898. He and Cora had 7 children:

  1. Bruce had children Linda, Bruce, Jr., and Joann.
  2. Max was the oldest and had children, Betty, Dennis and Donald.
  3. Patricia was the oldest daughter and she married Gilbert Coss and they had 3 children.
  4. Gary had four children, Carrie, Gary, Jr., Corrie and Gene.
  5. Alvah married Creota Alsup and they had two children Vickie and Ronald.
  6. Paul had four children.
  7. Phyllis had three children.

Section XIV

James William was the son of Amster B. He was born on June 7, 1893, and died in 1958 and is buried at the Oakland Cemetery, Carter County, Kentucky. He married Nora Halbert on April 20, 1912. He and Nora had 10 children:

  1. Tivis was born in 1913 and died in 1963 in Columbus, Ohio.
  2. Tishie was born on October 21, 1916.
  3. Mallissie was born on December 26, 1918, in Lewis County and died on May 3, 1922.
  4. Susie Jane was born on August 15, 1920, in Carter County.
  5. Cann was born on April 10, 1923, in Carter County.
  6. Everett was born on May 7, 1925, in Carter County.
  7. Arfie (Orbie) was born on August 7, 1927, in Carter County and died in 1975 in Columbus, Ohio.
  8. Samuel M. was born on September 28, 1929, in Carter County.
  9. Annie B. was born on March 6, 1933, in Carter County.
  10. Inez Maxine was born on May 15, 1935, in Carter County.

Section XVI

Roman (Rowan) was the g.g.s. of Squire and the son of Amster B. He was born on August 2, 1898, and died on December 16, 1971. He married Marjory Galford Watson on December 24, 1927, in Greenup County, Kentucky. She was born in 1905 in Portsmouth, Ohio, and died on November 9, 1940, in Portsmouth. Roman and Marjory had 7 children:

  1. Morton Edward was born on May 16, 1928, in Lewis County, Kentucky. He died as a young boy.
  2. Alta (Aileen) was born on April 27, 1929, in Lewis County, Kentucky.
  3. Alpha Mae was born on July 28, 1930, in Lewis County.
  4. Alice Louise was born on December 19, 1931, in Lewis County.
  5. Edrelle L. was born on February 14, 1933, in Lewis County.
  6. Clyde Kenneth was born on March 15, 1936, and died on June 25, 1938.
  7. Edith Romany was born on February 23, 1938, and died on August 18, 1939.

Section XVII

Ollie McGlone married George F. McGlone and will be discussed under the section with George in Chapter VI.

The center of social activity on McGlone Creek. This building has served as a school and as a church. Presently it is used for funerals and the annual homecoming in August of each year.
