PART IV

THE WISCONSIN McGLONES

To some extent, the McGlones of Wisconsin have to remain part of our miscellaneous group. However, we do have some detailed information on this particular group of "us" and so we decided to include a part and just call it:

THE WISCONSIN McGLONES

CHAPTER ONE

Michael McGlone was born in Ireland and died there in 1869. We have not yet been able to find out his birth date, but it was probably about 1818. He married Mary Cunningham, who was born on June 29, 1820, in Ireland and died on July 8, 1902, in Bear Creek, Wisconsin. Mary came to America in 1873 after he had died, and lived with her children until her death. She is buried in Bear Creek.

Michael and Mary had 10 children, however, we have been able to name only 8 of them:

  1. Anthony will be discussed in Section I.
  2. Katherine married Mike Nolan.
  3. Patrick will be discussed in Section II.
  4. Bridget married a Hoffman.
  5. Steve had two sons. (a) Steve who died in 1979. He lived in Bear Creek. (b) Francis.

Patrick was born in County Mayo, Ireland, on April 3, 1849. Some say he died in 1942, but his tombstone lists 1946 as the date. He married Ellen McMyler in 1877. Ekllen was born in 1853 in Ireland and died in 1921. Patrick owned and operated a farm of 160 acres in Deer Creek Township, Outagamie County, Wisconsin. He was the third of 10 children and came to America in 1870, locating at once in New London, Wisconsin, where he worked for about three years before buying his farm, at that time a wild tract which he cleared with his ax. He built a home in 1895 and in 1902 he built a 3,200 square foot barn. It has been stated that he was a democrat and served on the Board of Supervisors of Deer Creek Township and was also a member of the school board. He and Ellen had 9 children:

CHAPTER TWO

Michael I was born in Ireland in County Leitrum, Bally Rudd. He married Mary Gallagher who was born in County Sligo. She died in North Platte, Nebraska in 1898. There is a possibility that this Michael is the son of the previously mentioned Michael, but we have no way of confirming this at this time. Michael and Mary had 6 children:

  1. John was the first to come to America and settled on a farm near Richmond, Wisconsin. He married an Ann.
  2. Margaret came to America in 1843 and landed in New York. She went to Wisconsin in 1849. She was born in Ireland and married John Ward at Port Jarvis, New York.
  3. Michael II will be discussed in Section I.

CHAPTER THREE

In some ways we met with conflict with a few of the Wisconsin McGlone families. Much of the information listed below is incomplete and we offer it here with the understanding that it is not a finished report. Some sources offered us information in conflict with other sources. We have tried to piece it together as best we can.

There was a Patrick McGlone who married an Anna in Ireland. Anna died in Wisconsin in 1888. They had at least 1 child:

  1. Brigid was born on May 12, 1846, in County Mayo, Ireland, and died on April 8, 1931, in Wisconsin. She married a Patrick Campbell, Jr., and they had 10 children. She supposedly is buried at Bear Creek, Wisconsin.

CHAPTER FOUR

We had hoped to get more information from a source in California on the following family, but at printing time it was not available to us. We do list this family with a few questions and doubts as to its complete accuracy.

Andrew Jackson McGlone was born in 1841 in New York. He was an engineer for the Chicago Western Railroad. In either 1874 or 1875, he was thrown from a train cab and steamed to death. Andrew married Theodosia Mary Gates on January 9, 1869. She was born in 1851 in Wisconsin and died in 1949 in Wisconsin. We have reason to believe they are both buried at the Oakfield Cemetery in Rock County, Wisconsin. We know of two children and Andrew may have had a sister, Ellen McGlone Tuckwood. Their children are:

  1. Frank Eugene will be discussed in Section I.
  2. A son who we are told had two children who, in turn, had four children each.

References: 139, 197.

Section XVII

Frank Eugene was born in July 1870 in Wisconsin. One of our sources indicated he died in 1941 in Michigan and is buried at the Sunset Cemetery in Flint, Michigan. He married Ellen McLeod, who was born in Bruce Mines, Ontario, Canada. She died in California. They had 6 children:

  1. Elno Duncan had 3 children: (a) David (b) Robert (c) Richard
  2. Ronald Andrew had 2 children: (a) Ronald Gilbert who had 2 sons and 2 daughters (b) Mary Jean who died at age five.
  3. Milton had 2 sons: (a) Alan (b) Craig Paul.
  4. Mildred Helen married a Conway Stone Magee in 1933. She died in 1977 in California and we were fortunate enough to find we are good friends with some other relatives in Michigan.
  5. Doris Elaine married a Newmann.
  6. Carl.
