What would some day become Carter County is in the southern Greenup - northern Lawrence County area of the map.
Note that the principle east - west trail passes through the Little Sandy Creek area near present-day Grayson, then west through present day Olive Hill, but then paradoxically trens northwest to Flemingsburg. I can find no modern analogy to this supposed route between Olive Hill and Flemingsburg.
