Margaret Lunsford's Mother's Pension Application for Andrew

Margaret Lunsford who is an applicant for Mothers pension 256647 states that her post office address in 1863 was Star Furnace, Carter County Ky.,though she lived at that time in Boyd County and adjoining county to Carter said name of Post Office is now changed to Geigerville Carter County. She was declared a pauper in the Boyd County court five or six years ago also Joshua Lunsford her husband was also declared a pauper about the same time. She was taken out of said poor house by Lewis Watson who lives now near Willard Carter County Ky.  She also lived with James Watson near Willard Carter County Ky. She was sent from James Watson near Willard Carter County Ky to Benjamin Burchett's her Brother in Law's whose post office address is Smoky Valley and has remained in his family for 3 years last past.

            She states the names of her children is as follows: James, Rebeca, William, Jackson, Rachel, Andrew, Martin, Solomon and Peter.  She further states that she never kept any family record and that she can not tell the relative ages of her children, but she does remember that they had all abandoned home prior to the war except Andrew.  She further states that five of her sons was in the United States Service (to wit) James, Solomon, Peter, Martin and Andrew. She further states that there has been no person since the death of her son Andrew who was legally bound to support her except what time she was in the Boyd County Poor House. She further states that her son died without leaving any widow or child or children him surviving that she is his mother and Lawful heir.

She further states that since the year of 1865 she has own no real nor personal property since the year of 1865 to the best of her recollection. She further states that she was dependent upon her son Andrew for her maintainance that he labored on a farm generally during the crop growing season and at other times for the Star furnace Iron Company digging Iron oar chopping cord wood and that she received the benefit of his labors that he raised a crop of corn the same year that he entered the United States service and left it to her benefit and use. She further states that her husband’s occupation was that of making split baskets by hand the amount of income by his labors would not exceed $10 per year.
