In the matter of the original invalid pension claims no. 637772 of
Martin Lunsford per Co "K" 40th Reg.
On this 31 day of March 1888 personally appeared before me as clerk of
the Carter County Court a court of record in and for the aforesaid County and
State, Martin Lunsford aged 52 years a resident of Grayson in the County of
Carter and state of Ky., who being duly sworn according to law says: My present
post office address before I volunteered into the service of the United States
was Grayson, Carter County Ky and has been ever since the war . For 5 years
preceding my enlistment my post office address was Grayson Carter County Ky and
my occupation was that of a farmer and since my discharge from the service down
to the present time my occupation has been that of a farmer and that while in
the line of his duty at Grayson Ky sometime in the spring or summer of 1864 he
contracted a disease of the heart. In the first appearance of the said disease,
I had palpatations of the heart and it continued to worse., until I had
shortness of breath and weakness in all parts of my body and smothering spells
while lying down at night. Dr W.G. Jones treated me at Grayson Ky for heart
disease some time in the spring or summer of 1864. Dr. W G Jones is dead. Dr
Phillip and Dr Ly? treated me at Paris Ky for heart disease, I think it was in
the latter part of the summer of 1864 or the latter part of the fall. Dr Phillip
and Dr Ly are dead. Dr Jackson treated me about the year of 1867 for heart
disease. Dr Jackson's post office address is Ironton, Lawrence County, Ohio. I
have treated myself since the war with Patton Medicines. I have not performed
nor been able to perform more than 1/2 of the amount of the labor which an able
bodied man could perform on account of disease of the heart above described and
received in the service of the United States.
