Dr. Keffer Honored by Ky. Medical Association

	The 96th annual session of the Kentucky Medical Association awarded the
distinguished service medal here Tuesday to Dr. Smithfield Keffer, veteran
Grayson physician.
      
	 Dr. Keffer, 79, has been a practicing physician since 1891.  In 1895 he
delivered 165 babies.  
        
	"In those days I had to travel by horseback over muddy roads, deep snows
and in fact al kinds of weather - but I never turned down a case. " he
told reporters.
        
	Dr. Keffer said he is still hard at work.  He delivered three babies
last week.  The medal was presented by Dr. J. Watts Stovall, Grayson, a
friend for many years and retiring president of the association.
