OBIT - Ashland - Ernest "Ray" Barker, 57, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at home after a long illness. Born March 13, 1948, in Grayson, Kentucky, he was the son of Charles Russell and Blanche Mae Caroll Barker, and was a Mansfield/Ashland area resident most of his life. He was employed with the City of Mansfield, Water Repair Department. He was a member of Taylortown Community Church and the NRA. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Sherry M.Dilley Barker, whom he married Dec. 6, 1969; two sons, Johnny Ray Barker and wife, Kristy of Twin Lakes, Wis., and Wesley Barker; two grandchildren, Colby Ray Barker and Christine N. Burgess; five brothers, William Dewey Barker and wife, Della, of Shelby, Roger Barker and wife, Ruth, of Mansfield, Timothy Barker of Greenup, Ky., Bobby Barker and wife, Vicky, of Olive Hill, Ky., Don Barker and wife, Louise, of Grayson, Ky.; and nine sisters, Mazie Madeline Barker of Olive Hill, Goldie Smith and husband, Gene, of Mansfield, Hazel Parsons and husband, Ralph, of Shelby, Viola Jaques of Mansfield, Linda Kazee and husband, Bob, of Olive Hill, Ruby Jean Sedmak and husband, Raymond, of Mansfield, Janet Seagraves, and husband, Glenn, of Plain City, Ohio, Vicki Stapleton and husband, Rick, and Priscilla Faye Sparks and husband, Johnny, all of Olive Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles Barker Jr.; and sister, Wanda Gail Barker. Friends and family may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Wednesday, April 27, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Doug Tackett.
