Kentucky GenWeb projectOBIT - Ray Bear (1929-2005) - Our father, surrounded by his family, departed this life after an extended illness and entered God's loving arms on Jan. 5, 2005. Ray Bear was born May 28, 1929, to the late Stirl and Gladys Carroll Bear. Ray was the loving husband of Helen Reynolds Bear. They were united in marriage on April 2, 1950. During their 54 years together, they shared 13 children; 20 grandchildren; and eight grand-grandchildren. Ray retired from General Refractories after 23 1/2 years. He was a born again Christian of the Baptist faith for 33 years. Ray was a farmer and cattle trader for many years. Ray was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Kay Bear; his mother and father; one brother, Ova Bear; and one sister, Juanita Sparks. Including his wife, Helen, Ray is survived by 12 children, Phillip and Cathy Bear, Danny Bear and Vicky Bear Ratliff, Larry and Patty Skaggs, Jerry and Pam Middleton, Bernie and Joann McDaniel, Ricky and Marquita Bear, Daniel and Linda DeHart, Mark and Jill Thomas, Dale and Penny Kiser, Mike and Karen Belprez, Terry and Sherry Brown, and Kevin Bear; 20 grandchildren, Adam Bear, Bethany Bear, Brittany Bear, Shannon (Shannon Michelle) Bear, Corey Bear, Crystall (Matthew) Spencer, Stacy Skaggs, Arica (Chris) Conley, Chris McDaniel, Andrea McDaniel, Jeremy (Amanda) Bear, Brent (Kana) Salyers, Zachary Bear, Matthew Thomas, Conner Thomas, Travis Kiser, Tyler Kiser, Lakin Brown, Chrissy Belprez, and Jesse Belprez; eight great-grandchildren, Haleigh Mayse, Hailey Ann Conley, Kade Ison, Hannah Bear, Hailey Reynolds, Korbin Spencer, Mason Sparkman and Collin Bear. Ray is also survived by two brothers, Clell Bear and Maxie Bear; two sisters, Geneva Gilbert and Sharon Rose; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends. Pallbearers are Adam Bear, Jeremy Bear, Shannon Bear, Corey Bear, Brent Salyers, Travis Kiser, and Tyler Kiser. Honorary pallbearers are Chris McDaniel, Zachary Bear, Mathew Thomas, Connor Thomas, Korbin Spencer, and Kade Ison. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill, Ky., and officiated by Arlie Reynolds and Elijah Wagoner. Burial will follow in Bear Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today, anytime Saurday and until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.
