OBIT - Athene Bowling - Athene Bowling, 69, of 1606 W. Cross St., Ashland, died Wednesday at his home following a long illness. Mr. Bowling was born May 27, 1920, in Boyd County, a son of the late William and Inez Carroll Bowling. He was a retired zinc grip shearman for Armco Inc., a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Princess Church of Christ, the Rush Lodge 715 F&AM and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cannonsburg Post. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty Crace Bowling; two sons, Athene Crace Bowling of Mt. Vernon, Ill., and James David Bowling of Ashland; three daughters, Clara Worthington of Ashland, Helen Bowling, at home, and Jo Anne Hornbuckle of Lexington; three brothers, William Bowling of Wyandotte, Mich., and Earl Bowling and Joe Bowling, both of Ashland; two sisters, Mary Moore of Ashland and Helen Berry of Rush; and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Steen Funeral Home in Cannonsburg by Jerry Morris, minister. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home by the Rush Lodge 715 F&AM.
