Virgil “Junior” Brammell (1926-2006)

Virgil W. “Junior” Brammell Jr., died Monday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

Junior was born Feb. 10, 1926, in Leon, Ky., in Carter County. He was the son of the late Virgil Brammell Sr. and Beatrice Counts Brammell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Bobby Brammell.

Junior was a lifelong resident of Carter County. He was one of the original members of the reorganized Wolf Creek Baptist Church, where he held a number of offices including Sunday School teacher, deacon and church clerk.

He was a Navy veteran of WWII having served in the South Pacific as a radio operator aboard the destroyer escort, Jack C. Robinson.

He was a retired engineer for the Kentucky Department of Highways.

Among his survivors are his wife, Nadine Bradley Brammell; a son, Mike and his wife, Sandy; and a daughter, Amy and her husband, Rick Hardy, all of Grayson. Additional survivors are his grandsons, Casey and his wife, Shelley and Chad and his wife, Trish of Grayson; and a granddaughter, Kara and her husband, Brad Fuller of Nicholasville. His great-grandchildren are Sammi, C.J., Maggie Beth, Zane and Macy. He is also survived by a sister, Virginia Clark; a brother, Gordon and his wife, Mary of Grayson and a brother, Leonard and his wife, Joyce of Ashland.

Pallbearers are Casey and Shelley Brammell, Chad and Trish Brammell, Kara and Brad Fuller, Mike Malone and Tom Womack.

Malone Funeral Home in Grayson is in charge of arrangements. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. George Steele, the Rev. John Dean and Dr. Lee Gussler officiating. 

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before the funeral on Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Grayson Memorial Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Community Hospice, Wolf Creek Baptist Church building fund or a charity of your choice.
