OBIT - Receives Word Of Death Here - Brother of Mrs Sam J. DeBord Dies - Word was received yesterday by Mrs. Sam J. DeBord of this city, of the death of her brother, Mr. James Carroll, 38, who passed away Saturday at his home in Portland, Oregon. Although few details concerning his death were given in the message, it is believed that he became suddenly ill on Saturday and his death followed almost immediatlely. Mr. Carroll is a native of Kentucky, having been born and reared in Carter county, Ky., and formerly lived in this city. He served during the world war, and held the rank of second lieutenant in the army, and since the war has been very active as a member of the American Legion. In addition to his widow and three children, Mr. Carroll is survived by his mother, Mrs. John Carroll of Michigan, and five brothers and four sisters. He has a number of other relatives and friends throughout this region who will be saddened by the news of his untimely death. While the message announcing his death failed to state arrangements for the funeral both the funeral and burial will probably take place in Portland. (Ashland Daily Independent, Sept 25, 1928, pg 2) He was a grandson of John and Nancy Damron Carroll.
