Kentucky GenWeb projectArticle in Grayson Journal Enquirer, August 27, 1959, page 1. Wrecks Are Fatal To Paul R. Carroll, 24, and Verlan Brunty. Paul R. Carroll, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Carroll of Grayson and husband of Rose Marie Wheeler Carroll, died instantly at 4:50 a.m., Sunday, when his car struck a concrete bridge abutment four miles west of Grayson on US 60. Carroll was alone in the car which was traveling east. According to Kentucky State Police, Carroll's car crossed the highway and struck the left side of the bridge as the car approached. The vehicle, a 1951 model, was completely demolished. The accident was investigated by Trooper Norman Bryant. Carroll was born at Grayson on Sept. 11, 1934, a son of Glen and Mildred Stamper Carroll. He was graduated from Prichard High School, Grayson, in 1953. Carroll entered the US Army in May of 1957, and was discharged Feb. 20, 1959, with 18 months service in Korea. During the Journal-Enquirer's month-long subscription drive, Carroll was the leading solicitor for the newspaper. He was employed with the Carter County ASC office in farm survey work following his work with the newspaper. In addition to the parents, he is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Wheeler Carroll; a sister, Glenna, at home; his maternal grandfather, Everett Stamper, Grayson, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Edna Carroll, Grayson. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday at the Bagby Memorial Church, Grayson, with the Rev. James Kirk, and the Rev. J. C. Stephens officiating. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Grayson. The body remained at the Satterly-Phillips Funeral Home until time for services.
