Walter Carroll, 73, Carter Farmer, Dies on Monday Walter D. Carroll, Sr., 73, Grayson Rt. 4, died Monday morning in Veteran's Hospital, Huntington, after a long period of declining health. He was born Jan. 4, 1894, in Carter County, a son of the late Daniel Boone and Amanda Simmons Carroll, and was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War I. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hattie Smith Carroll; three daughters, Mrs. Marie Nolty, Winamac, Ind., Mrs. Laura Mae Boughner, Connorsville, Ind., and Mrs. Betty Prichard, Franklin, O.; three sons, Ruben Carroll, Muncie, Ind., Walter, Jr., and Harold Douglas Carroll, both of Grayson; a sister, Mrs. Inez Bowling, Ashland; three brothers, Willard, of Grayson, Herbert, of Huntington, and Hack Carroll, Toledo, O; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. (EDT) Wednesday at Barretts Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Bryan Porter. Burial will be in Carter County Memory Gardens. The body is at Satterly-Phillips Funeral Home at Grayson. (Found in the Ashland Daily Independent July 25, 1967)
