William Claxon        
1922 - 2003 

William T. “Bill” Claxon, age 81, of Grayson, KY, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday morning, December 31st, 2003, following an extended illness, at the residence of his daughter. 

He was born November 12th, 1922, at Hopewell, KY, a son of the late Ambros and Nevada Marie Bradford Claxon. 


Mr. Claxon was an ordained minister of the Ohio Valley Association of the Christian Baptists of Wheelersburg, Ohio. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees, a Kentucky District Superintendent for World for Christ Missions and was also a member of the Carter County Ministerial Association. 


He was a retired member of the Local Union 472, a 50 year member of AFL-CIO carpenters, a Kentucky Colonel, a World War II Army Air Force Veteran who served on Tinian Island with the 20th Army Air Force, a member of the Wright Patterson Air Force Museum, an active sponsor of the Kentucky State Police Drug Task Force and a member of the Old Time Machinery Association of Grayson, KY. 


In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Dolores Nipp Claxon in 2003; his son, Thomas Nipp Claxon in 2002; 1 sister, Ella Faye Claxon; a son-in-law, George Kibbey in 2003 and a sister-in-law, Nola Claxon in 2003. 


His survivors include: 3 daughters: Billie Jean (David) Hoffman of Columbus, OH,  Teddie Fay Kibbey of Plain City, OH and Saundra Lou (Michael) Brammell of Grayson, KY;  1 sister : Mary Evelyn Claxon of Hopewell, KY;  3 brothers: Junior Lee Claxon,  Charles Curtis (Janice) Claxon both of Hopewell, KY and Robert Douglas (Phyllis) Claxon of Greenup, KY; Grandchildren: Jamie Leigh Fraley Donaldson,  Stephanie Lynn Fraley,  Betty Jane Kibbey Hawk,  Teresa Louise Kibbey Thomas,  Robert Casey Brammell,  Michael Chadwick Brammell,  Kara Zane Brammell and 12 great-grandchildren. 


Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 3rd, at 1:00pm at the Malone Funeral Home with Lewis Davis, Keith Hill and Casey Brammell. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memory Gardens. Friends may call Friday evening from 4-9pm and Saturday after 10:00am until service time at 1:00pm. 

Serving as Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Virgil Brammell Jr., Austin Johnson, Jack Strother Sr., Cecil Callihan, George Clark Jr., Dr. Harold Shufflebarger, Bill Scott, Ford Kouns, Gene Brown and George Wilburn. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Gideons International and Community Hospice 1538 Central Avenue Ashland, KY 41101.
