Thelma M. Mertz, 83

MUNCIE - Thelma M. Mertz, 83, of Muncie, died Monday afternoon, August 2, 2004, at Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Lawton, Kentucky the daughter of Thomas W. and Mary I. May Ingram and attended school in Kentucky. She lived in Akron, Ohio most of her adult life until moving to Muncie in 2000.

Mrs. Mertz was actively involved with the visiting nurse association for infants in Akron, Ohio where she made quilts for the children. She also was a caregiver for other people, and was an avid gardener and traveler.

Mrs. Mertz was employed at Goodyear in Akron, Ohio for 20 years prior to her retirement. During WWII she was a Rosie Riveter with Ford Motor Company in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Surviving are six brothers and sisters, Katherine Dunaway, Olive Hill, Kentucky, James W. Ingram (wife-Lizette), Yorktown, Cliff Ingram (wife-Vera), Muncie, Ralph W. Ingram, Muncie, Charles Ingram (wife-Esther), Marion, and Lenora Williams, Muncie; her daughter, Roxanne; two grandchildren, Ethan and Emily; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, John Mertz, her daughter, Julie, a sister, Sylvia Jean Ingram, and a brother, Howard Ingram.

Services will be held in THE MEEKS MORTUARY and CREMATORY CHAPEL at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday with Pastor Ron Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Daleville.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory from noon until time of service on Thursday.
