Juanita Keeton Johnson 1929-2006
Juanita Keeton Johnson, 76, of Greenup, Ky., died Saturday, May 27, 2006, at her residence.
Mrs. Johnson was born Sept. 4, 1929, in New Boston, Ohio, a daughter of the late James and Minnie Jordan Keeton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Johnson Jr.; a son, James Johnson; a brother, John Doolin; and two sisters, Cora Lane and Mag Hackworth.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and a poet. She was the founder and first president of the Flatwoods Poetry Society, a past president of the Kentucky State Poetry Society and a past president of the Greenup County War Mothers. She was also founder of the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department Women?s Auxillary and one of the founders of the East Greenup County Boys and Girls Club. Mrs. Johnson attended Raceland Christian Church in Raceland, Ky.
She is survived by two sons, Marty R. Johnson of Greenup and Ron Johnson of Raceland; a daughter, Sherri Layne of Olive Hill, Ky.; a sister, Mary Bruce of Ironton, Ohio; a brother, Columbus Doolin of Ironton; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky. Jim Matthews will officiate the service. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
