Ruth O. Hayes 

1912-2003 

Ruth O. Hayes, a faithful servant of our Lord, Jesus Christ, was called home Nov. 11, to live throughout eternity with her Savior. 

Mrs. Hayes, a resident of Scope Towers for 27 years, was born Sept. 10, 1912, a daughter of the late Harlan and Theodocia Graham Kersey. 

She had been a Christian and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church for 56 years, where she was the oldest active member and attended the Belle Newman Sunday school class. She was a former employee of J.C. Penney of Ashland and Newport, Ky., and Star's Fashion World. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was a Kentucky colonel. 

She was the wife of the late Robert Edgell Hayes. Her precious daughter, Clotine Harrison, and loving son, Robert A. Hayes, preceded her. Paul and Jeanette died at birth. 

Her surviving children are Roberta Hayes Kemper (Warren) of Ashland, Bonnie Hayes Baker (Ronald) of Waxahachie, Texas, and Ronald E. Hayes (Donna) of Butler, Ky. 

She was a sister to Herbert Kersey Sr., James E. Kersey Sr., Glenwood Kersey, Harlan Kersey Jr., Lillian Kersey Dixon, Betty Kersey Mikovich, all deceased, Bobby G. Kersey of Flatwoods, Ky., Orpha Kersey Kazee of Melbourne, Fla., and Roma Kersey Hunt of Catlettsburg, Ky. 

Grandchildren are Gene Boggs of Olive Hill, Ky., Carolyn Boggs McKenzie of Castalian Springs, Tenn., Jeff Boggs of Gallipolis, Ohio, Ginger Boggs Reedy of Ashland, Rick Harrison and Mark Hayes, of Alexandria, Ky., Debbie Allen of Starr, S.C., Vanessa Baker Graham, Tanya Baker Curtis and Ronald Baker of Waxahachie, Texas, Rhonda Baker Orzali of Taylor Mill, Ky., and Robert A. Hayes II of Ashland. 

Mrs. Hayes has 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; 37 nieces and nephews; a church full of brothers and sisters in Christ and a host of friends. 

Her life and homegoing will be celebrated through music and Scripture, Saturday, at 2 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church, 2040 W. Main St., Ashland, Ky. 41102. Officiating will be her pastor, Brother Michael D. Rice, and assistant pastor, Brother Richard (Butch) Kiger. Her deacon, Jack Perkins, will read her obituary. Music will be provided by Vanessa Hall, Wayne Chaffin, New Heart Trio, Denver Rice, Bonnie Campbell, her grandson, Jeff Boggs, and the Fairview Baptist Sanctuary Choir. 

Visitation will also be held at Fairview Baptist Church from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday. 

Pallbearers will be her grandsons. 

Preston Family Funeral Home of Ashland is in charge of arrangements. 

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairview Baptist Church building fund and the Fairview Baptist Youth Group. 

May God's richest blessings be with the many who prayed with her. We now ask that you join her family in thanking our heavenly father and great physician for her ultimate healing.
