Madden was born at Greenslate, Lewis County, Kentucky May 25th, 1855, and departed this life January 16th, 1921, at the age of 65 years, 7 months, and 21 days. "Uncle Dolph," as he was most familiarly known, was a life long resident of Carter county and one of the county's best citizens. His truth and honesty was on the highest plane of the ecliptic and a Christian hearted gentleman. May the bereaved family and friends bear in mind that the beloved one is not lost from them but merely gone before. Like a star he vanished from their sight to shine in a brighter and a far serener clime. God hold them patient and uncomplaining and may they ever remember that He never calls one of His children into the gloom of Gethesemane without first stationing close at hand some strengthening angel.
