OCKERMAN FROM SPRINGFIELD (OH) NEWS-SUN 7/24/06 OCKERMAN, Paul R. 68, of Springfield, passed away July 22, 2006, after several bouts with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born March 7, 1938, in Grayson, Kentucky to Harry and Elaine Ockerman. He graduated from Washington Court House High School in 1956, and Capital University in Columbus, Ohio in 1986. He was a veteran of the Ohio National Guard and a member of Clark Lodge 101 Free and Accepted Masons, and the Hall of Shawnee Chapter 237, Royal Arch Masons of Springfield. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Gloria Dean Lee from Greenfield, Ohio. He retired in 1997 from Navistar International, following a distinguished 34-year career and a successful heart transplant surgery at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Prior to International Harvester, he was a teletype operator with Western Union. His passions included his family, golfing, bowling and hunting. He was a member and past president of the Springfield Engineer's Club, member and past president of the American Cancer Society, member and past president of Northwood Hills Country Club and past treasurer of the Fox Ridge Condominium Association. He was a recipient of many civic awards, including the United Way President's Award and the Navistar Volunteerism Award. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gloria; two daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Randy Phillips, New York, NY and Kelli and Dave Gscheidle, Beavercreek, OH. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Adam and Sarah Phillips, Chicago, IL, Lauren Phillips, New York, NY, and Scott and Brian Gscheidle, Beavercreek, OH. He is also survived by his sisters, Becky Reily and brother-in-law, Frank, Fallbrook, CA and Sandy Bessette, Roswell, NM, his sisters-in-law, Barbara Ockerman and Kathy Howell and four nieces and nephews, who adored him. He will be missed by his many dear friends, including special friends, Carol Leffel and Gail and Norma Meyer. He was preceded in death by his loving brother, Harry "Mel" Ockerman, and his loving foster parents, Benjamin "Poppy" and Dorothy "Dot" Brown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. on July 26, 2006, in the JACKSON LYTLE WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, North Limestone Street, followed immediately thereafter by a memorial service with Pastor Dan Reihing of Central Christian Church officiating. A luncheon will be served at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Paul to Community Mercy Hospice, 1343 North Fountain Boulevard, Springfield, Ohio 45504. Entombment will be in the Rosehill Mausoleum.
