Kentucky GenWeb projectGeorge Ivan Pelfrey MARION - George Ivan Pelfrey, age 81, 2919 Harding Hwy. W., died at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at home. Born Jan. 20, 1924, in Soldier, Ky., he was the son of the late Charles and Vida (Mauk) Pelfrey. On Nov. 8, 1948, in Morehead, Ky., he married Pauline (Boggs) Pelfrey; she survives in Marion. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he retired after 27 years as a utility worker for GTE. He was a resident of Marion for 48 years and a prior resident of Olive Hill, Ky. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by one daughter, Jana Lavern Purtee, LaRue; two sons, Ronnie (Marilyn) Pelfrey of Marion, and Roger (Gloria) Pelfrey of Bucyrus; eight grandchildren, Cindy (Gary) Swain, Mark and Matthew Purtee, Lorinda (Roy) Retterer, Jeremy (Tara) Pelfrey, Justin, Craig and Brittany Pelfrey; seven great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild, Michelle Riedlinger; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Shannon Pelfrey; six brothers; and one sister. The funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at Boyd Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Reed officiating. Burial is in Marion Cemetery. Friends may call 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Quality of Life Hospice program of Marion and/or American Diabetes Association
