Harlen E. Pitts

Harlen E. Pitts of West Bend died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center in West Bend. He was 88.

Mr. Pitts was born July 9, 1916, in Olive Hill, Ky., to the late James and Jeanette (nee Sparks) Pitts. 

He was raised in Eagle River and graduated from Union Free High School. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a corporal at Camp Roberts in California.

He married Christina Weiss Nov. 25, 1944, in Chicago, Ill. Together they were the proprietors of Pitts Red Owl Agency in Land O' Lakes and later, Pitts Grocery and Meats in Big Pine Key, Fla.

Mr. Pitts was a member of Eagle River No. 248 F&AM of Wisconsin and the Land O' Lakes American Legion. 

His hobbies included fishing and bowling. He and his wife moved to Cedar Ridge in West Bend in 1994 to be closer to family members. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bruce; a sister, Ina Laundrie; and two brothers, Harold and Wilmer Pitts.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jane (Gary) Seymour of West Bend; a brother, Frank (Peggy) Pitts; two sisters, Audrey Dickman and Elin (Jack) Ott; and two grandchildren.

He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held June 6 at Cedar Lake Health Care Center with the Rev. Susan Kolb officiating. 

Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery in Land O' Lakes at a later date. 

Memorials may be sent to any children's hospital or Shriner's hospital.
