James C. Ross, Sr. 85

James C. Ross, Sr. 85, of Sciotoville, died Saturday, June 9, 2007, at his home.  Born April 4, 1922 in Jackson County, 
he was a son of the late Arthur and Katherine Jones Ross, was a retired delivery driver for the Portsmouth Times, 
and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.  Jimmy was an Army veteran of World War II, and received the Purple Heart 
for the liberation of the Philippines.  

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Freda Royal Ross, sons, James C. Ross, Jr. of Portsmouth and Christopher Ross of Minford, 
daughters, Patricia D. Darby of St. Augustine, Fla, Angela L. Mercer of Wheelersburg, and Judy Rhoden of Minford, a sister, 
Leda Saunders of Oregon, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter.  

Preceding him also in death were a son, Terry A. Ross, Sr., brothers, Eldon, Herman, Arthur Jr., Edgar, George, and Ivan; sisters, Mary, 
Augusta, Ruth, Marie, and Avanelle; a grandson, and a great-grandson.  

A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Brant Funeral Home in Sciotoville with ? officiating.  

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors by the James Dickey Post of the American Legion.  

Friends may call at Brant’s in Sciotoville from 6-8 p.m. on Monday.

Arthur Ross, James Chester Ross' father, was born in Carter Co. in 1888. Arthur married Katherine Jones on April 10, 1909.

Arthur was a son of Jeremiah Jacob Ross and Sarah Alice (Campbell) Ross, both of Carter Co., Ky.
