Kentucky GenWeb projectClyde Simpson Sr. - 1914 - 2007 Clyde A. Simpson, Sr., 93, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday evening, November 23, 2007, at Oakmont Nursing Home in Flatwoods. Mr. Simpson was born March 8, 1914, in Kilgore (Rush) Kentucky, a son of the late Joe L. and Maud Adkins Simpson. He was preceded in death by three wives, Mary Simpson, Beulah "Mae" Simpson, and E. Maxine Sargent Simpson, to whom he was married 29 years; one son, Clyde A. Simpson, Jr.; six brothers, David, Joseph, James, Samuel, Curtis and Harvey Simpson; and five sisters, Maggie, Nellie, Bessie, Kathleen and Lula. He was a retired printer with 65 years of service for Graber Printing Company in Ashland, where he started around the age of 15. He was a charter member of West Russell Christian Baptist Church, where he and his wife Maxine served as treasurer and board member. He also held the office of Sunday School Superintendent for 16 years at the Grace Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Simpson was an avid golfer in which he won several trophies and truly loved watching the deer and ducks each year whenever he could. His greatest love was his Christian walk with God and he was a true witness to that each day. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Frances Gibbs of Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Karen Simpson of Richmond, Va.; one grandson, Brian (Diedra) Simpson of Louisville; one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson, also of Louisville; a special niece who cared for him, Judy (Darrell) Terry of Flatwoods and a very special and devoted great niece, Lisa A. Terry of Raceland and several other nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Funeral Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Caniff Funeral Home by the Rev. James Webster. Friends may call after 1:30 p.m. today. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Donations in Clyde's memory may be made to Catlettsburg Southside Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 426 36th Street, Catlettsburg, Ky. 41129.
