Mrs. Hattie Smith Carroll 85, of Route 4, Grayson, died Saturday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Carroll was born Sept. 17, 1898, in Greenup County, a daughter of the late Ruben and Laura Stevens Smith. Her husband, Walter Carroll, died in 1967. She was a member of the Barretts Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Thelma Pullen of Walton, Ind,. Mrs. Laura Mae Warth of Connersville Ind., and Mrs. Betty Prichard of Franklin, Ohio; three sons, Ruben Carroll of Anderson, Ind., and Walter Carroll Jr. and Harold Carroll, both of Grayson; two sisters, Mrs. Virgie Pennington of Grayson and Mrs. Edith Gilbert of Greenup County; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by the Rev. James Stevens. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.
