Kentucky GenWeb projectVirgie Smith Pennington - 1908-2007 Virgie Smith Pennington, 99, of Grayson, Ky., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, in Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 7, 1908, in Greenup County, Ky., a daughter of the late Ruben and Laura Stevens Smith. She was a homemaker and of the Southern Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Pennington; three infant sons, Edward, Elmer and Arvis Lee Pennington; five brothers, Everett, Emert, Owen, Virgil and Tandy Smith; and four sisters, Hattie Carroll, Edith Gilbert, Sally Kibbey and Amanda Smith. Her survivors include a son, Cecil Pennington of Rock Island, Ill.; two grandchildren, Michael Pennington and Robert Pennington; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Dr. Harry A. Thacker. Burial will be in Smith-Claxon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 2, 2007, at the funeral home. Condolences may be made to Pennington family at malonefuneralhome.com.
