Kentucky GenWeb projectWalter W. 'Doc Waldo' Smith MANSFIELD -- Walter W. "Doc Waldo" Smith, 76, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at home. He was born Feb. 7, 1928 in Olive Hill, Ky., to William and Victoria Elsie Smith. Moving to Ohio in 1949, he retired from The Ohio Brass Company after 34 years of service. He celebrated 53 years of wedded bliss with his wife, Elizabeth Isaac Smith, before her passing Dec. 13, 2003. Walter served with great pride in the U.S. Army during WW II, doing two tours of duty in Japan. He also served with the Texas National Guard. Walter loved the outdoors, nature and especially gardening. He was well loved and appreciated as a father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed, yet fondly remembered by all. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Barbara Smith of Sevierville, Tenn.; five daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Gerald Adkins of Mansfield, Linda and Jerry Wolf of Sevierville, Cathy and Martin Blamer, Madella and Richard Grumbling, Wilma and Douglas Lindsay, all of Mansfield; a sister, Loveda Trent of Morehead, Ky.; four brothers, George Smith of Arnett, W.Va., Carmel O. Smith of Mount Gilead, Cleotis Smith of Mansfield and Michael Smith of Perrysville; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two chosen grandchildren, Maxine Dick and Becky Totman of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Phyllis Ann Smith; grandson, Larry Allen Smith; three sisters, Louise McEndree, Avis Flinders and Mary Stone; five brothers, Lanaham, Ralph, Bobby, James and Glendal. Friends may call at Werner Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, 175 W. Third St., from 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 7, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 8, conducted by Pastor Clifford E. Tackett. Burial will follow at Mansfield Cemetery with full military honors by JVC Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be to the family.
