Harold Solomon
1929-2003
Harold Solomon, 74, of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 17, in the Miami Valley Hospital.
He was born April 12, 1929, in Knoxville, Tenn., the son of the late James T. and Georgia B. (Newman) Solomon.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the Daylily and Iris Society of Dayton and was an avid antique collector.
Harold received his B.A. in psychology from Berea College and his M.A. in guidance counseling from the University of Tennessee.
He began his teaching career in Sunman, Ind., then moved to Florida where he taught English, speech, and drama at Fort Lauderdale High School.
He relocated to Ohio in 1959 and taught English and drama at Beavercreek High School, then taught at Greenon High School,
followed with a position as a counselor at Northridge Junior High School, was hired at Sinclair Community College in 1966 as an associate
professor and chair of the Humanities Department. He also served as chair of the Communication Arts Department, retiring in 1992.
Mr. Solomon was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Oppenheimer Solomon; a brother, James Solomon of Nashville; a sister, Kathleen White
and husband Albert of Lenoir City, Tenn.; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Belton Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn, Ohio.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at 4 p.m. until the time of service.
Burial will take place at the Tick Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill, Ky., on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
