Mildred Carroll
1917-2003
Mildred Stamper Carroll, 86, of Grayson, passed away Dec. 26, 2003, in King's Daughters Medical Center following a sudden illness.
She was born Feb. 21, 1917, in Gregoryville, Carter County, the daughter of the late William Everett and Minnie Prichard Stamper.
Her husband of 53 years, Glen Ireland Carroll, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son,
Paul Ray Carroll and one brother, Vernon Stamper.
She was a member of the Bagby Memorial United Methodist Church for 51 years. During the 1930s, she and her husband operated
Carter Caves before it was state owned, operated Hitchins Scales, worked at Grayson Restaurant and was head cook at
Prichard High School in the 1940s. She and her husband also owned Carrolls Truck Stop in the 1960s and she was desk clerk at
the Shangri La Motel for a number of years.
She is survived by one daughter, Glenna Box of Grayson; one grandson, Paul Ray Carroll II of Vanceburg;
three granddaughters, Bambi Lynn Bailey of Lexington, Staci Rae McDavid and her husband, Patrick of Grayson,
and Kristi Noel Howard and her husband, Charlie of Sandy Hook; six great-grandchildren, Michael Justice, Drew Howard,
Charli Noel Howard, Tara Alyse, Andrea Rae and Rhiannon Shawn McDavid; one brother, Gerald Stamper and wife Vivian of Grayson;
one daughter-in-law, Rosemarie Carroll; one sister-in-law, Dollie Whitt; two nieces, Debbie Kuhner and Marlene Stamper;
and three nephews, John E. Jones and Jimmy and Terry Stamper.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson with Lewis Davis and Brad Smart officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
