May 19, 2007 Vilma Gayle May - 1928-2007 Vilma Gayle May, 79, of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Ashland, widow of James May, was called home to her Heavenly Father Thursday, May 17, 2007, with her loving family by her side. She was born March 25, 1928, in Kermit, W.Va., the daughter of the late Richard Ray and Florence Peggy Kirk Stamper of Catlettsburg. She was formerly the librarian of the Johnson County Kentucky Public Library and a retired county deputy clerk of Boyd County. She was a member of the Boyd County Women’s Republican Club and a Kentucky Colonel. She was also a member of Pollard Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, James Franklin May, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Stamper of St. Albans, W.Va. She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Stewart of Willard, Ky., and Marsha (Ron) Griffith of Lexington, Ky.; two sons, David (Patty) May of Ashland and Richard (Patti) May of Timberlake, N.C.; a sister, Mary (Bob) Rhein of Bellefonte, Pa.; six grandchildren, James David (Laura) May of Lexington, Heather (Mike) Perkins of Lexington, Angie Griffith of Charleston, S.C., Courtney (Carl) May-Arthur of Ashland, Sarah May of Little Rock, Ark., and Mark Griffith of Lexington; one great-grandchild, Andrew Perkins of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2007, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will follow in Catlettsburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
