Clifton Stevens 1920 - 2004 Clifton W. (C.W.) Stevens, age 84, of Grayson, died April 14, 2004 in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital after a short illness. C.W. was born January 17, 1920 in Grahn, KY, a son of the late Wade and Hannah Parsons Stevens. He graduated from Olive Hill High School in 1937, Spencerian Commercial College in Louisville, KY in 1939 and Army Finance School, Duke University in 1944. C.W. was vice president and director of operations of Louisville Fire Brick Works in Grahn, KY until his retirement in 1983, was a World War II Army Veteran and a Kentucky Colonel. He served on the Grayson Utilities Commission from 1968-1970, the Grayson Board of City Commissioners from 1970-1978, the Fivco Area Develpoment District Board of Directors for 23 years and was the chairman of the board in 1982 and 1983. Clifton was executive secretary of the Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce from 1987-2002 and has been an economic development consultant to various Grayson area businesses. He played a key role in getting Cook Family Foods to locate to Grayson in 1989. He was vice-chairman of the Northeast Kentucky Regional Industrial Park Authority from 1998-2002 and was instrumental in the East Park Industrial Park development. C.W. was an avid gardener and was famous for wildflower gardens. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Erma Gaskin. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Virginia Harcham Stevens of Grayson, a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and C.J. Johnson of Grayson and two grandchildren whom he adored, Drew and Alex Johnson. Additional survivors include a sister, Glenna (Peg) Kiser of San Antonio, Texas and a brother, Roy Stevens of Florence, Alabama. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 17th, 2004 at 1:00pm at the Malone Funeral Home with John Dundon, officiating. Burial will be in the East Carter Co. Memory Gardens. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-9pm at the funeral home.
