James S. “Jim” Sylvester (1928-2007)

James S. “Jim” Sylvester, 79, of Grayson, Ky., passed away Sunday, July 15, 2007, at his residence.

Mr. Sylvester was born April 30, 1928, in Madison County, Ind., a son of the late Frank and Della Burns Sylvester.

He was a retired plumber and a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ, 
one of the founding members of the Citizens for Veteran Association, a U.S. Constabulary Association chaplain 
and a member of the College of the Scriptures of Louisville, Ky., where he was a trustee for 15 years and a volunteer for more than 30 years. 
He was a Kentucky colonel.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald “Dean” Sylvester.

His survivors include his wife of 58 years, Francelia Davis Sylvester of Grayson; two sons, Mickey R. (and wife Judy) Sylvester of Grayson 
and Jimmie A. Sylvester of Lackey, Ky.; two daughters, Cherie S. (and husband Willis) Johnson of Grayson and Marye S. (and husband Jim) Cosey-Hawkins of Smyrna, Ga.; 
grandchildren Christa J. (and husband David) Hargraves of Sandy Hook, Ky., Carey S. (and husband Kevin) Beaulieu of Gulf Breeze, Fla., 
and Colleen Cosey of Smyrna; great-grandchildren Logan Hargraves and Tyler Hargraves, both of Sandy Hook; two sisters, Helen S. Reger 
and Joanna S. (and husband Delbert) Free, both of Ingalls, Ind.; and two brothers, Richard L. Sylvester of Fortville, Ind., 
and Harold “Butch” (and wife Peggy) of Ingalls.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Oak Grove Church of Christ with Tim Carper, Mike Harper and John Brooks ministers. 
Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, July 17, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oak Grove Church of Christ Life Center Building Fund, 1525 Damron Branch, Grayson, KY 41143 or the Kentucky Christian University Athletic Fieldhouse, 100 Academic Parkway, Grayson, KY 41143.
