Wilbur Tackett 1917-2006

Wilbur Tackett, 89, of Lafayette Street, died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, in Autumn Hills Nursing Home.
He was born in Lawton, Ky., on Aug. 28, 1917, to Roy and Birdie Creech Tackett.
He married Melissa Brown on July 9, 1987.
He was employed for 30 years at the Standard Slag Company, Lordstown, as a mechanic and retired in 1976.
Mr. Tackett was a member of Champion Church of God and a 50-year member of the Mahoning Masonic Lodge.
A race car drive, he owned and operated his own plane in the 1940s and enjoyed traveling and spending time in Florida.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Dalson of Howland; a stepdaughter, Betty Bane of Niles;
a granddaughter, Pamela (Jim) Profato of Niles; a grandson, Rick Dalson of Brookfield; a sister, Jirvil Cottrell of Lordstown;
and two brothers, James (Tiny) Tackett and Lee (Shirley) Binion, both of Niles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Flora Tackett, whom he married Nov. 10, 1938. She died June 25, 1983.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles, with Bishop William Kemp officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lordstown Cemetery.
