Mahala and John Carter
"These are two of the children (Mahala and John) of my great uncle, Frank Carter and his second wife, Mary Damron Carter.
The stones behind them are from the old log house that formerly stood on the site where they're standing. This house had served as the Afton Post Office building at an earlier time. My great grandparents, Asberry & Mahala (Curnutte) Carter, had lived in that building, as had Frank & Mary earlier. In the background you'll see the old Carter place in profile. This is on Carter Branch.
