Artie Susan (Rice) Lucas
This is a photo of Artie Susan Lucas (nee Rice). The photo was taken in 1930 in Ohio. Artie was born in Carter County on the 8th November 1857. I think she may be the daughter of William M Rice? and Nancy Rogers. Artie was the wife of Joseph Josiah Lucas, the youngest son of Parker Lucas. Joseph and Arty were married on the 6th December 1876 in the home of Joseph's mother, Susannah Lucas (nee Fraley) by the minister D.F Lee in Carter County.
Joseph and Arty had 10 children of which 7 survived. My father tells me that there was a mining disaster in which some of Joseph and Arty's sons were killed.

This photo was given to me by my father who is the youngest son of James Wesley Lucas.
