LEONARD FRANKLIN SLYE Better Known To Millions As ROY ROGERS “King of the Cowboys” Leonard Franklin Slye was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 5, 1911 to Martha “Mattie” Womack and Andrew “Andy” E. Slye. Although he was not a native of Carter County, his mother Martha “Mattie” Womack was born in the area of Pactolus, Carter County, Kentucky on March, 8, 1882, to Archer “Archie” Womack and Martha “Pattie” Hatchett. On July 29, 1905, in Carter County , Mattie married Andrew E. Slye of Portsmouth , Ohio . Roy ’s father Andrew Slye was the son of Alonzo Slye and Mary Wessel.
