Myrle Jordan, and her mother Julia (Stamper) Jordan [1879-1970], plucking chickens. Taken in Carter County around 1950.
Julia was the wife of John Jordan [1873-1956]. She was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson "Jeff" Stamper and Martha (Erwin) Stamper.
Her grandfather was the first Stamper to move to Carter County from North Carolina. His nicknames were "Pewter John" Stamper and "Cherokee John" Stamper, the first due to alleged counterfeiting of silver coins, the second due to at least a partial Native-American background, features still strongly evident in Julia's face.
