John Franklin "Red" Wells was born January 8, 1891 in Elliot Co. Ky.. John died October 13, 1953 at Tick Ridge, Olive Hill, Ky. He is buried in Jr.O.U.A.M. Cemetery.
John F. Wells was a private of Company E of the 22nd regiment of Infantry. He enlisted at Jefferson Bks. Missouri on 29 April 1911. According to his discharge, he had brown eyes, dark brown hair and a ruddy complexion. He was 5'6 1/2 tall. He was discharged at Texas City, Tx. the 28 April 1914. He had "excellent character". He was considered to be "honest and faithful" with no unauthorized absences. He was a sharpshooter and was not mounted.
John and Eva Lee Staggs were married at the residence of Henry Williams in the presence of W.S. Tackett and Henry Williams. Marriage bond book #19, page 333, Carter County, Kentucky. Eva was born August 15, 1899 in Carter County, Kentucky, and died October 6, 1974 in Rowan County, Kentucky Eva is buried at Jr. O.U.A.M., Olive Hill, Ky.
John died from lung cancer. His death certificate was signed by Dr. J.M. Rose.
