"Elizabeth Wilcox was born on 19 February, 1845 in Ashe Co., NC, a daughter of Samuel and Barbara (Houck) Wilcox.  

In 1850, the Wilcox family moved to Pike Co., KY and from there to Deer Creek, Carter Co., KY in 1862.  

On 16 April, 1865, Elizabeth married William P. Lewis.   William was born on 28 September, 1834, also in Ashe Co., NC.  
He served in Co. M of the 14th KY Cavalry.   

William and Elizabeth settled in the Pleasant Valley community of Carter County.   
They had three children: Jesse Houck Lewis, Samuel Wilcox Lewis, and Jennie Barbara Lewis (who married Richard Harris).  

William P. Lewis died on 4 May, 1897.  Elizabeth survived him by thirty years until her death on 12 February, 1927.

In the picture, they are standing (left to right) as follows: Jesse, Samuel, Elizabeth, and Jennie. 
 
Samuel Wilcox Lewis (named after his grandfather, Samuel Wilcox), was born in Carter County on 28 January, 1866.  
He married Cora Lee Madden (1871-1953), daughter of Catherine (Harris) Madden.  He moved to Alameda Co., CA and died there on 4 August, 1940.
 
Jesse Houck Lewis (named after his mother's uncle, Jesse Houck) was born in Carter County in September, 1867.  
He moved to Mahaska Co., IA, and married Cordelia Audrey Shaw (1874-1939).  Jesse died in IA in 1933.  
 
Jennie Barbara Lewis (named after her grandmother, Barbara (Houck) Wilcox) was born in Carter County on 3 August, 1874.  
She married Richard Harris (1861-1940), son of James A. and Lucretia (Newman) Harris.  Richard and Jennie lived in the Pleasant Valley area, 
and she died there on 24 February, 1925."
