Samuel Vernon Wilcox was born on 16 July, 1859 in Pike Co., KY, a son of Samuel and Barbara (Houck) Wilcox.
Samuel and Barbara Wilcox moved to Carter County in the early 1860s.
Samuel Vernon Wilcox married Melissa Bell Lee (1861-1921), daughter of Andrew and Sarah (Castle) Lee.
They had four sons, all born in Carter Co., KY: Samuel Hamilton Wilcox; Charles Frederick Wilcox; William Edward Wilcox; and Lewis Marion Wilcox.
In the early 1900s, Samuel and Melissa moved their family to Huntington, Cabell Co., WV, where they lived for the remainder of their lives.
Samuel Vernon Wilcox died in Huntington on 30 July, 1931."
