Effie Estelle Zorns

"Miss Effie Zorns/Zornes, teacher at early school in area of Brinkman, Greer County, Oklahoma.
She followed her older siblings, Henry Clay Zorns, and Bertha Zorns Warlick, also school teachers in Greer County.
Effie finished her higher education at North TX State Normal School in Denton, TX. Effie's family was from Boyd, TX in Wise County.

This photo was taken circa 1890.

Effie was born in 1884 and died in 1929.

Effie with girls at house, was taken at Denton, TX 1905 or 1906.
This may have been the boarding house where she lived, or a group representing a campus club except there are children present.
(North Texas State Normal - Denton, TX) Effie is standing next to the pole second from left.

Effie's Certificate (PDF)

Effie's certificate: Effie and her husband Frank Boyd lived in New Mexico for 3-4 years (ca. 1920-1924).
The first town where they lived was Sophie - not sure what the draw for them was. There is nothing left there
now but a few ranch homes sparsely scattered throughout a vast open range with shells of buildings that used to house
families and school children. (Have photos of my dad, Ralph Boyd and his older brother, Zorns Boyd standing in front of one)
We made it a point to drive through the area in the early months of 2001 and were able to take photos from approximately
the same spot where she snapped the same scenes nearly 80 years earlier. There was a country store (have photo if you want)
that housed a post office that appeared to be the heart of the little country community which had disappeared by 2001.
I'm guessing this is where Effie worked. Frank & Effie later moved to Des Moines, NM, a little town a few miles north of Sophie.

Effie is on the bottom row, fifth from left in this 1905 class picture.
