The Maggard Grist Mill
"This picture was taken about 1915 by Will Whitt. It is a picture of the old grist mill on the Little Fork of the
Little Sandy River, near the mouth of Hylton Branch. It was constructed and operated for many years by
Levi Pennington, and after his death was operated by Jim Bunn Maggard, father of James Tivis Maggard, of Ashland,
but was discontinued by Mr. Maggard in the year 1918. The large Burrs, or large grinding wheels were brought to
this state from Virginia. James Tivis Maggard was my father and he died in Ashland in 1970."
