Located a few hundred feet in front of Malone Funeral Home, just behind the Courthouse, is the home built by Stephen Nethercutt, former Carter Co. deputy sheriff, in 1878. The house was built of soft brick walls that were 17 inches thick, had 11 foot ceilings, and small rooms and 6 fireplaces. The house has been placed on the historical registry and still stands proudly today.
