The 1913 Olive Hill Flood

This is a wonderful picture of the flood of 1913 in Olive Hill.

I do not know those in the photo, but the picture is looking from Woodside near chili Street toward town
and the old iron bridge that was the crossing for Tygart Creek.

Another photo, obviously taken at the same time

I have had a terrible time trying to figure this one out, everything seems to be a little off.

I believe that this bridge crossed the creek more to the east and not where it is located today.
The large building in the left side of the photo is the freight depot, built around 1886. With the newer bridges that were built,
the road acrosses to the left side of the freight depot. This appears to run to the right side of the depot (where Scott Street is located).
That would make the street that we are looking at Scott Street instead of Cross Street. If you zoom in close, you can see people
standing on the other side of the creek on the railroad track.

I also think that the railroad might be going up railroad street in this photo, instead of being a little farther south.
I have now found at least 3 photos of the 1913 flood.
If you look close at this one, the men standing by the bridge are looking up at he cameraman, and not at the water.
He must have taken the photo at the bridge first.

This was taken from across the Tygart, looking toward where Hydreco Village is today.
